Climaxing 35 years of planning, 22 years of actual construction and the expenditure of approximately $100,000,000 the people of San Francisco will celebrate the first delivery of water from the great hetch hetchy project October 28. The system will carry water from storage reservoirs in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, 167 miles through a series of tunnels and pipe lines to the city's local reservoirs entirely by gravity and will have an ultimate capacity of 400,000,000 gallons. As a by-product electricity will be developed. Secretary of the Interior Harold L. Ickes will be the principal speaker. Photo shows: Tail race of the Mocassin Creek Power House which generates 100,000 horse power. The flow of water here is 580,000,000 gallons per day.
