In the little Catholic churchyard of St. Martinville, Louisiana, the grave of Evangeline, the heroine of the poem by Henry Longfellow which recited the wanderings of the Acadians, is marked by this memorial and plaque, which bears the name of Emmeline Labiche, who, present day Louisianans say, was Evangeline.
