Edwin Markham one of the ten preliminary contest winners, will divide equally the $1,000 prize offered for the words of a new national anthem, it was announced by Mrs. Florence Brooks-Aten, sponsor of the competition. The winners of the final contest, which ends February 1, will receive $5,000. Markham's successful entry, Miss America, bears as its subtitle a quotation from the late Theodore Roosevelt, Brotherhood is the American Ideal. Photo measures 5.75 x 8 inches. Photo is dated 01-09-1929.
