Washington: Richard W. McLaren, assistant attorney general, told the Senate Antitrust Monopoly Subcommittee 6/20 that a bill to let competing newspaper set joint newspaper advertising rates and pool their profits "would flout the basic principles of the free enterprise system and should not be permitted".
