Hearst told a news conference that the latest demand by the Symbionese Liberation Army was beyond his financial means and the matter was out of his hands. Gould, publisher of the San Francisco Examiner told newsmen that the Hearst Corporation was prepared to contribute $4 million to the People in Need program if kidnapped Patricia Hearst is freed.
