House Speaker Sam Rayburn, 79, is dying of cancer. Hospital test 10/5 showed there was no hope. Rayburn was not told. Rayburn is shown in a 1955 filer as he sits on the rostrum as President Eisenhower delivers his State of the Union message to a joint session of Congress. Vice President Richard Nixon is at upper left.
