President Eisenhower is presented the first Frank H. Lahey Memorial Award "for outstanding leadership in medical education" from S. Sloan Colt, left, of New York, president of the National Fund for Medical Education. Looking on are Mrs. Frank H. Lahey, widow of the famed Boston Surgeon, and Dr. Walter B. Martin, president of American Medical Association. Dwight David "Ike" Eisenhower (pronounced /?a?z?nha??r/, eye-z?n-how-?r; October 14, 1890 – March 28, 1969) was the 34th President of the United States from 1953 until 1961. Prior to that he was a five-star general in the United States Army.
