Description

Capt. R.M. Elder, a native of Milwaukie, Ore., became commanding officer of the USS Coral Sea in ceremonies Monday at Alameda, Calif. He relieved Capt. M.F. Weisner. Capt. Elder earned his commision through the NROTC program at University of Washington. He was commanding officer at the fleet oiler, USS Waccamaw and Fleet Operations Division of the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations before going to the USS Coral Sea.
