Al Reque worked from a tall ladder (left) to stain the eagle that graces the top of the totem pole in his yard at Solon Springs. The 20-foot tall sculpture was carved and painted by Reque's son-in-law, Dan Baker, a woodcarver and artist from Superior, Wisconsin. Below: This grotesque figure shows the artist's careful attention to detail. Lower right: One of the totem's sleepy-eyed characters.
