Winner and loser waved in the crowd together Friday at Chicago after General Eisenhower (left) won the republican presidential nomination, defeating Senator Taft on the first ballot. Eisenhower took the initiative to bring about the meeting. He walked from his hotel after receiving word of his nomination and went to the senator's headquarters. Taft congratulated Eisenhower and assured him he would win the presidency. Presidential campaign.
