Burmese Prime Minister Leads Prayers For Rain To Avert Drought - And Down It Comes.. U nu the Prime Minister of Burma and many of his ministers - led a widespread campaign throughout the country for prayers and recitation of the Buddhist scriptures to pray for rain to end the threatened heat-wave - drought and water famine.. The prayers were offered by Buddhist Monks - Ministers and people in all pagodas throughout the country - and the prayers were immediately rewarded with torrential rains on the city of Rangoon.. Keystone Photo Shows:- General view during the prayers for rains at the "Shwedagon Pagoda" - led by the Prime Minister U nu who is seen centre front - with a ring on his finger, and wearing dark trousers with light check stripes... The umbrellas are in readiness for the rain...
