Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Caption: Robert Kadelak was brutally beaten by center Line Police Sgt. Arthur Curnow in January 1987, allegedly after sideswiping Curnow's police cruiser and then fleeing the scene of the accident. Police caught him a short time later and took Kadelak to the Center Line Police Station where Curnow beat him up in front of the other officers. Kadelak sued the city and later collected a $900,00 settlement, $300,000 of which went to Curnow.
