Caption: (PX4) PHILADELPHIA, MAY 13 - HOFFA BRANDS CHARGES AS "PHONY" - A bespectacled James R. Hoffa, international president of the Teamsters Union, gestures as he branded jury tampering charges as "phony" in appearance before a Federal Court in Philadelphia today. Hoffa was held in $10,000 bail for appearance in Nashville, Tenn., to answer a grand jury indictment there that he conspired to tamper with a jury that was trying him for alleged misuse of union funds.
