Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Caption: THE FISHER BUILDINGRight: The lobby of the Fisher Building on West Grand Boulevard in Detroit's New Center area, seen from the third-floor balcony. Below: The arches in the lobby's ceiling. The building, constructed in 1927 for $9 million, was placed on the register of National Historic Landmarks in 1989. It was originally conceived as part of a three-tower colossus that would have covered an entire block, with it and another smaller tower flanking a 60-story skyscraper.
