Description
Columbia River flow through eight skeletonized units of powerhouse following completion of rock-fill closure dam Wednesday, Oct. 17, 1956. Starting Sept. 10, 1956, with two shifts, contractors placed quarry-run rock in main river channel at rate of 9,000 cu. yds. a day, gradually forcing flow of river from natural channel through powerhouse. Approximately 300,000 cu. yds. of rock were in place when channel was completely closed.
