Description

A raging inferno today at the Spokane Metals Co. warehouse at Courtland near Nelson defies efforts of city firefighters to smother flaming magnesium airplane parts. This picture was taken from the south side of the building minutes after the roof of the 150-foot-long structure collapsed. Firemen had the blaze under control but expected to stay at the scene for several more hours. The destruction was listed as "total."
