1961 Press Photo Wallaby in San Diego Zoo in a crate - spx05146

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
This animal Northwest Seed & Insecticide received last August from the San Diego Zoo in a crate plainly marked "Male Wallaby," apparently wasn't. A baby wallaby popped out of her pouch last night, Kenneth L. Hester, owner of the firm, said today. "The wallaby must have been carrying the baby almost since we got her, as they are very tiny at birth and this one now must weigh nearly a pound," he said. Hester added that the Australian mammal that has been masquerading here as "Mr. Wallaby," weighs about 40 pounds. The baby declined to appear for the camera.

Photo measures 6 x 8.5 inches.

Photo is dated 11-21-1961.
