The woodcarver-village in Upper Bavaria, oberammergau, stands in the sign of the passion-play: After the traditional "beard-decree", in which all people who are allowed to star in the passion, inhabitants of the village over the age of seventeen years, are called up to let their hair and their beards grow, now at June 23rd 1979 the main actors for the play of the passion of Jesus Christ become elected. Photo Shows Director of the festival-committee and woodcarver Hans Maier with the 3,50 metres high crucifix, which plays a important role in the vow-scene.
