4-12-52 Buddhist relics enshrined - A recent gathering of Buddhists at Sanchi near Bhopal, recently saw the reinstallation of the new sacred relics of Sariputta and Moggallana, Buddha's chief disciples, in a newly erected temple on the site where they were discovered by General Gunningham over 100 years ago. The relics were taken to England but restored to India in 1949, and have since been taken throughout the Buddhist world. The casket containing the relics was carried by Mr. Nabru to its final resting place. Keystone Photo Shows: Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookherjee, President of the Mahabodhi Society which built the new temple seen carrying the relics to the top of the hill where the final resting place lies.
