Description
Turtles: Birmingham Alabama Zoo, Well, not exactly. And that's one of the things Birmingham school children will be learning when Alabama Zoological Society volunteers begin visiting classrooms this month. The volunteers, along with small animals from the zoo nursery, will visit city and county school's this month and next. Here Mrs. Louis Dow, one of the volunteers, gets acquainted with the turtles at a training session for the lectures. Alabama Zoological Society volunteers, called "Docents," also conduct tours of the zoo for groups of children who want to learn about the animals as well as see them. Demand for both the classroom lectures and tours has been doubling yearly and the Zoological Society needs more volunteers to meet the demand.

Photo measures 6.5 x 9.5 inches. Photo is dated 04-07-1976.
