Description
A group of high school pupils here has turned a shabby downtown eyesore into an amusement and activity station for elementary and preschool children. Led by James G. Friend, Harding High School art teacher, some 50 teen agers have worked since early May to create and operate Miracle Station in an abandoned Penn Central Freight Depot on E. Market St. We had to clean out tons of junk and trash left when the station was closed five years ago, before we could even start our renovation, Friend explained. We negotiated use of the station nominal rent from Penn Central and then ConRail. Working evenings and weekends until the school term ended. Friend and his crew painted the building bright orange, put in new wiring, improved the plumbing and installed new windows and a theater.

Photo measures 10 x 8 inches.

Photo is dated 08-26-1976.
