Description
Wentworth, Wisconsin: When this small community along Highway 2 in Douglas County was in danger of losing its business district, elam Karki decided to do something about it. Although she is 65 and walks with the aid of a walker because of an arthritic condition, it did not prevent her from waging "one hell of a fight" to help save the town from extinction, she said. Mrs Karki was first exposed to the town's plight when she learned that the post office was being closed. Later she learned that the community's only store was going out of business. Suddenly, she said she realized that Wentworth, population 70, was on the brink of surrendering to the fate that had phased out many other small towns in the nation. Elma Karki,
