Description
Above: A cyclist pedals over a stretch of trail, which is covered with nearly 10,000 lightweight, erosion-control blocks. One official says the new blocks, which are a foot wide, 3 feet long and an inch thick, provide 100 times more protection for fragile terrain. The total cost of the installation is about $125,000.
