Old West Gives Way To King Coal- A black strip=ming scar showing up in an aerial photo of southwest Wyoming near Rock Springs symbolizes the prosperity spilling across the state like tumbleweed. It's a prosperity based on energy on energy development, and it's made the Wyoming economy, chronically ailing, one of the nation's strongest. Coal is fueling the state's energy boom; this year it's estimated that the industry will mine 60 million tons.
