1989 Press Photo Doug and Harold Thomas Puff Low Fat Cheese Curds Using Muffler

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Doug Thomas (left) and his father, Harold, demonstrated how to puff low fat cheese curds by using the muffler on an old Allis-Chalmers tractor on their farm in Barneveld, Wisconsin. If Iowa County farmers Harold and Doug Thomas have anything to say about it, it won't be long before a dairy snack food joins the others on grocery store shelves. The father and son team hold a patent to a "low-calorie dairy snack product" and have at least two companies interested in mass producing and marketing the invention. The dairy snack food, call it a puff or a chip, was actually the brainchild of Walter Thomas, Harold's brother, who died in March 1987 at the age of 67.

Photo measures 10 x 7.5 inches. Photo is dated 05-15-1989.
