10th century Kyoto festival. The famous giion Matsuir, one of the outstanding summer festivals of Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan, dates from the 10th century in honour of the yasakea shrine, Groups of men wheeled shiners thorough the streets of the city, carrying orchestras an fan dancers.
