August 20th 1979 Bill Netting crowned 'ring-pull-king' - Police Constable Bill Netting was today crowned 'Ring-Pull-King' of the world, because he has collected 66 million ring pulls from cans of drink to help the National Kidney Research Fund. The ring pulls are made of non-ferrous metal and are sold to metal dealers for the vital cash needed to step-up kidney research in Britain. Photo Shows: P.C. Bill Netting, from Romford, wearing a special suit covered in ring pulls is seen jumping a bollard after crowning ceremony at the Tower of London today.
