Description
Bears Still at Large on the Isle of Wight. Nikita and Valentina, two Russian bears, have for 12 days evaded capture, after escaping from a children zoo at Ryde, Isle of Wight. So far they have defied the efforts of assorted police, R.S.P.C.A. and zoo men to catch them. Yesterday, Mr. Harold Slater, the island's bear defying R.S.P.C.A. officer ventured into the woods at Priory Bay, tracked down the bears fed them with bananas, and left more for them to eat later - hoping to keep them in the same area until an expert from London Zoo arrives today and tries to knock them out with drugged darts so that they can be returned to captivity again. Photo Shows: Mr. Harold Slater, R.S.P.C.A. Inspector, feeds the escaped bears, Nikita and Valentina on the Isle of Wight yesterday.
