1913 Press Photo One of the Stations along Canal Zone - spx09744

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
One of the Stations along the Canal Zone, where an automatic record is made of the wind velocity, wind direction and rainfall. The height of the water in the canal is also recorded automatically by a register installed in the concrete tower. Careful records are kept of weather conditions at several stations along the canal and on Gatun Lake watershed. The rainfall and water supply are important factors in the success of the canal. The records indicate that the water supply will be ample. The Pedro Miguel Locks near the Pacifico entrance to the canal are seen in the background.

Photo measures 5.75 x 8.5 inches.

Photo is dated 12-22-1913.
