Soviet filmmaker and naturalist Yuri Ledin introduces viewers to the wild inhabitants of the beautiful and desolate wrangle Island in NOVA's "In the land of the Polar Bears" (w.t.), airing Tuesday, February 5 at 8 pm on PBS (check local listings). Wrangel Island a Soviet possession off the coast of Alaska is not only the world's largest maternity denning area for polar bears, but a safe haven for Siberian snow geese, polar foxes and walruses, as well. NOVA is produced for PBS by WGBH Boston.
