HArry WOodward (left), Oregon Department of Transportation district maintenance manager, and Bob VanVickle, state regional geologist, check a crack and the sunken grade that caused the state to shut the Columbia River Gorge Scenic Highway to traffic two miles east of Vista House. Repairs are expected to take three or four days. Officials said spring water and rain washed out the earth under the road.
