Ruth Haefner, founder of the Gray Panthers in Oregon, vows to continue to work for the rights of children, the elderly, and the ethnic groups as she speaks at dedication of the Ruth Haefner Plaza. A walkway, top right, with benches and a gazebo is feature of the yard and complex. Virgilia O'Neil, who is legally blind, enjoys hear apartment at Ruth Haefner Plaza because it is near relatives. Sophie Rothman's sign, left, on the refrigerator makes clear who runs the kitchen in her apartment. She moved into the new apartment complex Nov. 29.
