With chopped meat selling at 39 cents a pound, ham at 65 cents, steaks at 69 cents, and chickens at 29 cents, many New York consumers jam into the meat department of this downtown department store, Sept. 26. In an effort to force at least a local price break, the officials of the department store have acquired a meat supply to take care of 10,000 people daily, with 35 butchers in constant attendance, and 6 policemen to keep the crowds moving in orderly fashion.
