1980 Press Photo Clark Christensen shows Vivian Carter how to use teletypewriter

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Clark Christensen operated his teletypewriter while Vivian Carter watched the communication process. The telephone rings but Clark Christensen, deaf from birth, can't hear it. Instead, he notices the lamp in the family room blinking on and off, his own signal for the phone. He gets up to answer it, eager to demonstrate how he can "talk" to the person on the other end.

Photo measures 6.5 x 10 inches. Photo is dated 04-24-1980.
