Description
Day of The Mule In Mexico June 21st was Corpus Christi Day in most of the Catholic world, but in Mexico it was the day of the mules. Each year on this day little children dress up in clothes similar to those worn by the people who originally saw the Virgin of Guadalupe. Little boys paint moustaches on their faces, little girls bring down baskets of fruit. The holiday evolved as a kind of Thanksgiving when the Indians used to come down from the mountains to hold communal feasts to give thanks to their gods for the crops.

Photo measures 8.25 x 10 inches.
