Huge Buddha carved in Japanese cliff; A daibutsu, or great image of Buddha 31.5 meters high, sculptured on the face of a cliff near the Nippenji temple on Mount Nokogiri in the Chiba prefecture of Central Japan, was unvailed last week with religious rites by Zen Pr The giant Buddha new the biggest in Japan, is named "Yakusha Ruriko Nyorai" or the light azure stone buddha because of color of the cliff from which it was carved. Japanese sculpture Kyoji Yatsuyanagi commenced his gigantic work in August 196 and completed the Buddah after 5,000 days at a cost of ~60. The idol was dedicated to world peace, prosperity, and far the victims of world war II, by high priest Tokuzen of Hipponji temple which was founded in 725 as priests blew fanfares on sea shell horns and chanted sutras.
