(SECU:68:CZE:IN) Security Council Begins Debate on Situation in Czechoslovakia : UN 105,106 United Nations , New York , 21 August 1968 . The Security Council tonight began debate, at the request of six Council members, concerning "the present serious situation in the Czechoslovakia Socialist Republic". The decision to take up this item- as requested today by Canada, Denmark, France, Paraguay the United Kingdom and the United States -- was taken by a vote of 13 in favour to 2 against (Hungary, Soviet Union). In the debate statements were made by the representatives of Czechoslovakia, United States, Canada, France, Denmark, Hungary, Brazil, Soviet Union and United Kingdom.Before the adoption of the agenda, statements were made by the representatives of the Soviet Union ( which sent a letter opposing discussion of the item), the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Denmark and Paraguay.
