Description
Transatlantic Race Hop Is Launched. The 57-foot sir Thomas Lipton, the largest British yacht entered for the 1968 Singlehanded Trans-Atalntic race, was launched this weekend at Snadwich Kent. Built by her owner and helmsman, 25-year old Oxford graduate, Geoffrey Williams, and Derek Kelsall, the 12-ton yacht had the forward wheels of the mobile cranes used for the launch lifting off the ground as they eased her into the muddy waters of the River tour at Richborough quay. Williams will now spend six days installing the spars, deck fittings, chart table and galley and will begin sailing trials off Ramsgate next weekend.
