Wafa'a El Nil Ceremony (end of the inundation period) River boats procession sailing in the Nile. Guezira Tower is seen in the background. In old days, during the Pharonic ages, it was the custom to throw to the Nile a virgin as a sacrifice to the idolized river. With Islam, the brutal tradition was abolished and a dummy of a girl was used instead.
