Caption: Rumored for Labor Post--Joseph Lane Kirkland, former sea captain, is expected to be named by the AFL-CIO executive council as the No.2 man in the labor federation, putting him into the running to eventually succeed President George Meany. The 47-year-old Kirkland is reportedly Meany's choice to fill the post of secretary-treasurer of the federation of labor unions.
