Caption: Memorial for Free Press movie critic A memorial service for Kathy Huffhines, Free Press movie critic since 1987, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, at the Star-John R Theatre. John R off 14 Mile Road across from the Oakland Mall in Troy. Huffhines, 48, died July 18 in Philadelphia, where she was vacationing. She was critically injured when a falling tree crushed the car in which she was a passenger. Speakers at the service, expected to last about one hour and geared toward celebrating her life and accomplishments, will be Free Press Publisher Neal Shine, Detroit Film Theatre director Elliot Wilhelm, Boston Glove movie critic Jay Carr (Miss Huffhines' fiance), other Free Press staffers and readers. Miss Huffhines singled out the Star-John R as her favorite local theater in an article that appeared in the national magazine Entertainment Weekly just two weeks before her death. The public is invited. Seating is limited to 300. Memorial contributions can be made to the Coalition on Temporary Shelter (COTS), 26 Peterboro, Detroit 48201.
