Caption: The temperature had dropped overnight from around zero to ten below.Snow was swirling and thick clouds of steam were rising from the Chicago River as I went aboard the Pickands-Mather Co's 647-foot ore Carrier S.S.J.L .Mauthe.The Steam was from the hot water pumped back into the river after cooling the Inland Steel Plant.
