Caption: DOAK WALKER'S football career was closely linked to that of another legendary football great, Bobby Layne. High school teammates and college rivals, Layne and Walker were later reunited as players with the Detroit Lions of the NFL. Interviews with Walker, Layne and their high school coach Rusty Russell are featured in a dramatic segment of The 1983 Heisman Trophy Award television special. Candid interviews with Heisman winners Walker, Johnny Rodgers, Joe Bellino and John Huarte combine with dramatic football action to illustrate the rich history of the Heisman Trophy, the most prestigious award in college sports. The hour-long TV program includes the live announcement oft he1983 Heisman winner. The special will be broadcast via satellite on Saturday, December 3. (Editors: The special will be shown livein all time zones - 7:00 PM, ET; 6.00 PM, CT; 5.00 PM, MT; and 4:00 PM, PT.) The program is written and directed by Bud Greenspan.
