Caption: Erosion- Giant sandbags weighing around 6,000 lbs and Longard tubes, long, heavy-gauge plastic cylinders, are among the experimental shore protection techniques being tested at various sites around the state. In a joint project, The University of Michigan Coastal Zone Laboratory and the state Department of Natural Resources are building and testing both conventional and unconventional shore protection structures.
