Description
Samuel de Champlain (1567-1635) represents the French attempt to colonize a New France in North America before the English did. An explorer and adventurer, Champlain established the first French colony at Quebec in 1608. France lost her colony -- but took vicarious pleasure from the rebellion of the English colonies and in time sent troops as well as money and a navy to help win America's freedom.
