Caption: Car Runs Wild, Student Driver Dies in Canal - A Detroit woman taking driving lessons from a friend in a city park off Lakewood on the city's east side drowned Sunday night after the car went out of control, accelerated through a stand of trees and plunged into 20 feet of water in a canal off the Detroit River. Flora Belle Davis, 48, of 12695 Cheyenne was dead on arrival at Detroit General Hospital According to Claud Thompson, 62, a friend, the couple had gone to Alfred Bush Ford Park at the foot of Lakewood where he gave her some driving lessons. Detroit police divers, called to the scene at 7:50pm, took two hours to find the body in the dark and murky water.
